Job Description: MSc Tutor (Part-Time)

Applications are sought from current MSc Carbon Management students (or
previous graduates) who will still be in Edinburgh for some or all of the
period September 2011 to June 2012 and are interested in providing tutorial
support for the 11/12 MSc Carbon Management students.
Job details: A generic tutor job description is attached on the link above. More specifically,
these MSc Carbon Management tutor/s will be expected to be available for a
specified number of hours per week in Semester 1 (hours to be confirmed
prior to commencement of work) for any student queries, especially for
issues regarding climate science and carbon economics concepts. They may
also be required to provide assistance with some of the ‘Applied Carbon
Methods’ lectures/practicals in Semester 2. Please note that this is far
from being a full-time job, it will rarely involve more than 20 hours in
total for one tutor across the academic year.
Basis of appointment: Tutors will be appointed on an ‘hours to be notified’
(HTBN) basis. If they are full-time PhD students, then their hours of work
should not exceed six contact (teaching) hours per week.
Pay rate: Tutors are paid approximately £30 per hour of tutoring, which
includes allowance for preparation time and any marking work outside of the
actual teaching hours.
Eligibility: These positions are open to all who have an appropriate
knowledge of the material covered in MSc Carbon Management. It is expected
that tutors will be available for the entire duration of Semester 1 and/or
Semester 2 of 2011/12.
Selection process: Applicants who are deemed to have relevant knowledge,
skills and experience will be asked to attend an interview during the week
of 15 August.
This interview will assess their suitability for appointment. The second
stage of the selection process will involve matching suitable candidates
with the work available. The School will issue HTBN contracts after this
second stage.
Criteria for selection: The selection and interview panel will consider how
well the applicants fulfil the requirements of the job description.
